The Brick House

Ever since I was a little girl, I always loved the beach. It was my favorite place to go and I was always so sad to leave it. As I became an adult that feeling never changed. There’s a calmness I have by the ocean that’s like no other place. It feels like home.

When I met Nate one of the things we had in common was that he loved the ocean too. We’ve spent hours walking the beach, picking up shells, and laying by the water. There too, was his favorite place. Over the last almost twenty years of marriage we’ve taken more beach trips than I can count, the last three years going in our RV. We always knew that we wanted a place of our own, a place we could go anytime without the need for a reservation. A place we could just hop in the car and go to on a moment’s notice, a quiet place by the ocean.

For such a long time, that thought seemed more like a dream than reality. We also knew that we wanted to find a place we could pay for. We didn’t want a mortgage, we didn’t want another payment. We had worked so hard years ago to be debt free and we didn’t want our happy place to carry the burden of debt. If you don’t know our debt free story, you can read it here. That meant we had to wait..so we waited, and we waited, and we waited. When we were finally ready, the market wasn’t. It was during the pandemic and prices had soared to no longer affordable. So again, we waited. The last four years, we patiently watched the market and last Fall the market began to fall and prices started to come down. We waited through the winters months and this Spring we began to look again. This month we found the perfect place; a two bedroom, one bath home near the ocean…1200 feet to be exact!

Today, we closed on that home. It’s ours, our perfect little place by the ocean. We look forward to spending days…weeks and maybe down the road months at this home. I’m excited for the future and the memories we will create here and a sense of accomplishment for how we got here. We call it “The Brick House” because this house was truly built by Lego, well our Lego business! Which is ironic because it’s not made of brick and no one else will have a clue why it’s called that, but we will. We have some pretty cool ideas for what this new place will hold and I look forward to sharing them with you in the weeks to come. Follow along with us on Instagram for all the fun! Stay tuned…
